How To Avoid Falling Flat On Your New Years Resolutions

The New Year always brings about the concept of a resolution, and thousands, if not millions, of people choose to make a change in their lifestyle pertaining to health.

However, many will face the dreaded fall off at the one month marker, and gym levels will soon decrease back to the average crowd. Do not let this happen to you if you want to lose weight, gain muscle, or even both. Discipline and hard work are required, but the end result is staying on track and making a better you.

Choose a Realistic Diet Plan

Your goal should be more realistic at first. For example, if you are currently living on soda and Twinkies, you may not want to jump straight into a strict Paleo diet. That may be too drastic of a change, and instead you should choose something like cutting out soda, drinking more water, eating 3 servings of vegetables a day, and removing highly processed foods. You are more likely to follow this type of plan for over a month, since it is a basic dieting regimen, and body fat percentages are guaranteed to drop as well.

The Resolution Challenge provides 3 diet level options so that you will be challenged just enough to make real change without being overwhelmed or defeated.

Do Not Fear the Gym!

The gym could be a scary place for you since you might feel intimidated by the regulars. However, you have to realize that they too were once in the same situation as you, and did not start off with the body they have now. Continue on with your training to burn the fat and gain lean muscle. Or better yet, find a likeminded fitness community that will accept you right where you are and push you to be better. Your local box is a great place to start.

Again, reality is your best friend. There is no need to try going headfirst into heavy lifting routines if that is not something in which you have a foundation. Keep the weight light until you get your form down properly, then begin to make incremental changes within your fitness routine. Improper lifting gives you little results in the long run for all the effort you have put into it, and more importantly, there is the possibility that you could get seriously injured.

Stick With It and Keep Strong

Focus on what you want to do with your body and write down the goals you seek. Compare previously taken pictures to new ones and see what has changed. You are sure to notice differences in the first month, and it just gets better from there. Keep your mindset on your diet and exercise plans to receive max potential, and learn to enjoy working out, so you last past the one month mark following your New Year resolution!
